Friday, March 15: Musician and producer Youth joins author Barry Miles and Pat Thomas in conversation on Ginsberg as musician. Jesse Goodman and Peter Hale will introduce The Fall of America, two albums of compositions based on Ginsberg readings by artists including Scanner, Thurston Moore, Yo La Tengo, Angelique Kidjo and Devandra Bernhardt. This will be followed by screening of selected as well as live music from Youth and special guests.

Pat Thomas is the author of Listen, Whitey! The sights & sounds of Black Power 1965-1975 and the author of Did It! Jerry Rubin: An American Revolutionary. He is the co-curator of Invitation to Openness: The Jazz & Soul Photography of Les McCann 1960-1980. Thomas has appeared several times on BBC radio discussing the relationship between 1960s era politics and protest music and has been written about in The Wire, London Sunday Times, Mojo. He is co-editor of My Week Beats Your Year: Encounters with Lou Reed.


Pater Hale grew up in Italy, Germany, and then Boulder, CO where he earned a BA in Classics, Greek & Latin, from the University of Colorado, all the while attending classes in music, poetry, and meditation at Naropa University. He became part of the staff at Allen Ginsberg’s office in 1992, and in 1997 helped craft his posthumous estate, which he currently manages. He studied guitar with Dave Van Ronk & Danny Kalb, and piano with Peter Barbieri. He currently produces his own music, and DJ’s around NYC.
